Denmark is probably the most open-minded Scandinavian country regarding sexuality – so much so that it was the first country in the world to enact partnership laws. The country’s national gay and lesbian association has been around since 1948, and was instrumental in enacting anti-discrimination laws.

Many Danish cities, such as Arhus, have smaller gay communities, but Copenhagen is the place to be. Copenhagen’s lively gay scene is concentrated in the Bohemian Old Town, amidst the city’s generally relaxed vibe. The best times for gays and lesbians to visit might be during August’s Mermaid Pride Festival, or during Copenhagen Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in October.
