The first gay pride parade in 1969, known as the March on Stonewall, started as a protest against discrimination and violence against gays in New York City.  Today, gay pride parades and festivals are staged to demonstrate the pride the participants have in who they are, who their family and friends are and to remind the world that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people deserve the same rights as others, void of judgment and hate.  These pride events have become annual celebrations and have grown to include thousands of gay and gay-friendly participants, in destinations all over the world. Most gay pride celebrations span from a few days to over a week and have taken on a festival environment, filled with dances, volunteer and social events and highly publicized parades.

We would like to invite you to join in the celebration this year somewhere in the world.  While you are at it, take a vacation!  Zipping off to Montreal, Los Angeles, Stockholm or Paris to attend a Pride Celebration is also a great way to really learn about the people of that destination.  Take the opportunity to enjoy the destination before or after the celebration also – lay on the beach, tour the countryside, experience the nightlife or spend your time tasting the local cuisine.
